birdcage/ a short story pt.1
that was when i remembered yesterday - severe headaches and a rich palette of emotional monsters, i didn’t know where to begin - so i made coffee and drank some water. what a wasted night.. her face stuck to every bottle, while i was desperately trying to resocialize after weeks of isolation, junkfood and 90s indie records.
the phone rang and my heart stopped. “this is an answering machine - if you don’t talk, i don’t answer” said blixa right before the beep. i loathe speaking on the phone, yet all my hopes lay on her voice coming through the cheap speakers. she introduced herself and asked if it was me from the evening yesterday and if i wanna meet up later. sunday morning hasn’t felt so good for years.. i called back instantly, my voice was shaking, asking if we wanna hang around kreuzberg soon.
we met at görlitzer bahnhof and hugged, she smelled of cigarettes, her eyes euphoric and sedating. we walked down to the park and spent the whole afternoon together. we came to talk about recorders and how funny everything sounds when you slow it down or speed it up, which reminded me of a record i bought recently called “symphony of the birds” by jim fasset.
